Our Girls Who Code club aims to close the gender gap in technology and computer science by offering coding classes for youth in grades 6-12 on Saturdays from September to April in the UArizona Main Library. Club programming is designed with the interests and experiences of girls and non-binary youth in mind, but welcomes participants of all gender identities. The program does not discriminate on the basis of gender. This opportunity is completely free and no personal computers are required. Space is limited based on capacity.
In the Fall, youth participants use Python to learn the CORE4 skills (loops, conditionals, variables, and functions) and in the Spring, they use these skills to develop coding projects related to their shared interests. Past projects have focused on website development, robotics, AI, and game development. Classes are facilitated by UArizona women in computing fields and youth participants get to enjoy visiting the college campus and benefit from mentorship provided by the facilitator team.
