WiSSC Meet and Eat, Tuesday, February 25
The WiSSC Meet and Eat series is a multimedia-based discussion series focused on discussing issues pertinent to the retention, recruitment and success of womxn in STEM. Last semester, the series focused on professional development-related topics: networking, negotiation and the underrepresentation of womxn in STEM. We reached 52 students, faculty and staff representing various STEM-related disciplines at UArizona through our fall series.
We polled our target audience and found that most desired to discuss issues related to mental health in future Meet and Eats.
Our spring series, entitled “Mental Health Matters,” will center around two key mental health topics: perfectionism and creating a support community. Both meetings will feature information from experts and discussions of the problems with and solutions to university-wide mental health issues.
Through the spring Meet and Eat series, WiSSC hopes to create a safe space where female-identifying STEM students and allies can vulnerably discuss these highly stigmatized, sensitive topics by sharing stories and identifying resources. We strive to foster a sense community at the university that supports the mental health all intersecting identities of womxn in STEM through these events.
Test of Perfection: Tuesday, February 25
Creating Your Community: Tuesday, April 21
Both events will be held from 12:30-1:50 p.m. in ENR2 S21.
An allergy-friendly catered lunch will be provided.
