WISE Receives nearly $10,000 from Freeport-McMoRan Sierrita Operations to Continue STEM Programming in Sahuarita
Tucson- February 17, 2016
The Women In Science and Engineering (WISE) Program at the University of Arizona has been awarded a $9,748 grant from Freeport McMoRan Sierrita Operations. This grant will enable WISE to continue to implement fun and educational events to inspire youth to consider careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
WISE offers two free conferences in Sahuarita, one geared to middle school students, and one for high school students. Students have an opportunity to attend two hour long interactive workshops presented by STEM professionals within the university and industry in Tucson. Past workshops have included learning about cyanotypes, CPR, and heart health.
Students get free lunch and also have an opportunity to win an array of prizes ranging from science kits to passes to local establishments such as the Desert Museum or the Titan Missile Museum.
By offering these captivating events, WISE inspires young students to find their voice in STEM fields.
