WISE Collaborates to Bring 30 Local Girls to Campus

May 31, 2022

On May 2nd, WISE co-hosted a fieldtrip for local middle and high school students in collaboration with Association of Women Geoscientists and TUSD’s Mexican American Student Services Department. The fieldtrip brought 30 students from WISE's Imagine Your STEM Future program at Desert View High School and Pistor Middle School’s Technolochicas program. Students within each program participated in a scavenger hunt during their visit to the Alfie Norville Gem & Mineral Museum, courtesy of the Association of Women Geoscientists. Afterward, students toured UArizona’s Design Day, where they learned about how engineering is used at the college level to provide solutions to a variety of problems. The projects showcased gave the students a great insight into the creative uses of engineering. Technolochicas students also paid a visit to the Guerrero Center, where they learned more about what the center has to offer and how to set their sights on college as they enter high school. Special thanks to Hannah from the Association of Women Geoscientists for organizing a fun, inspiring, and educational day!
