Portia Cooper to Join Girls Who Code's National Teaching Team
WISE’s Girls Who Code Club is made possible by the dedication of a group of facilitators who share their knowledge and experience with club participants. Portia Cooper joined GWC when she was in middle school and became a facilitator in 10th grade. During this time, she has been a critical part of the facilitation team, creating lessons and activities that help participants build skills in a way that engages with their interests and backgrounds. This summer, Portia will continue growing her skills as a tech educator and supporter of diverse and inclusive tech communities by serving as a Teaching Assistant for the 9-week long Girls Who Code US Summer Immersion Program. Portia was selected from a pool of applicants from across the nation. In this role, she will teach CSS, HTML, and JavaScript to around 180 girls from across the United States. Portia’s involvement with the UA Girls Who Code Club, as both a participant and facilitator, was critical in helping her gain the knowledge, skills, and experience needed to move into this role. Congratulations and best of luck to Portia as she takes on this new role!
